A 38-year-old man from Plan 2000 Compound in Mazabuka District, Zambia, has died after allegedly ingesting insecticide under unclear circumstances.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police Moono Namalongo, has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Oliver Simutowe.
According to Namalongo, the incident occurred on March 4, 2026. Around 06:00 hours, Simutowe left home for town while his wife remained behind attending to household chores.
Namalongo said the man returned home around 21:00 hours and woke his wife to inform her that he had taken poison. Shortly after making the confession, he reportedly began gasping for breath.
His wife immediately sought help from a neighbour, who rushed to assist. During a search of the room, an empty bottle of insecticide was discovered on the bed.
The neighbour, identified as Leonard Kakumba, later took both the body of the deceased and the empty insecticide bottle to Mazabuka Police Station.
Police officers who inspected the body reported that there were no visible physical injuries, except for a whitish substance coming from the mouth.
