Police Shoot Suspect Fleeing Alleged Theft at Bingu Stadium

A man identified as Daniel Masautso is receiving medical treatment after being shot by police while allegedly attempting to flee following a suspected theft at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

According to Lingadzi Police spokesperson Maria Kumwenda, the incident occurred on Monday during routine foot patrols. An officer reportedly spotted Masautso carrying two sacks containing what were later identified as two sets of sinks.

Kumwenda said the suspect was ordered to stop but instead attempted to escape, prompting the officer to discharge a firearm and injure him.

Masautso is currently admitted to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where he is said to be in fair condition.

Police say he will be taken to court to answer theft charges once he recovers.
