Residents of Julius Village under Traditional Authority Katunga in Chikwawa District killed a crocodile on Tuesday night near J&M Lodge, raising concerns over increased sightings of the reptiles in the area.
The incident comes just days after another crocodile was killed by villagers in nearby Sadulo Village at Nachikwale Dam.
A local resident, Chiphikire Mabvuto, said the crocodile was moving on land, reportedly heading towards the Shire River from a nearby dam.
Mabvuto added that the animal was spotted by children playing close to the area, who alerted community members, leading to its killing.
Meanwhile, although reports indicate that the crocodile has been handed over to police, Chikwawa Police spokesperson Dickson Matemba said authorities are yet to confirm receiving it.
