Man Arrested For Abducting 7-Year-Old and Demanding Ransom in Mzuzu

A 40-year-old man is in Police custody in Mzuzu for allegedly abducting a seven-year-old child and later demanded a ransom money amounting to K150,000.00.
Police Publicist in the Northern Region, Inspector Cecelia Mfune has said the suspect has been identified as Blessings Ibrahim who hails from Wasoliwa Village, Traditional Authority Nkholondiwe in Mangochi District.
According to Inspector Mfune, the suspect allegedly committed the offence on April 26, 2026, at around 06:00 hours at Bwanali Village, Ekwendeni in Mzimba North District.
“The child’s mother reported at Ekwendeni Police Post that her daughter had gone missing. She also reported receiving calls from unknown individuals using an Airtel number demanding K150,000.00 for the child’s release.
The suspects later called again and increased the demand to K500,000.00,” she said.
Following investigations, police detectives managed to arrest the suspect the same day at Ekwendeni Trading Centre while the missing child was found and rescued in good health.
