Salima Sugar Company Limited has dismissed reports suggesting that the government is planning to sell the company, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement signed by Acting Chief Executive Officer Charles Thupi, the company said there are no plans to put the firm up for sale and that operations are continuing as normal.

“We wish to categorically refute these allegations as no such plans are on the table for the sale of this strategic company. The company continues to operate normally and maintenance is underway,” reads part of the statement.

Thupi further urged broadcasters and media outlets to verify information before publishing or airing reports concerning the company, emphasizing the importance of responsible journalism.

The company maintained that all its activities remain on track, dismissing speculation that has circulated in recent days regarding a possible government decision to dispose of the enterprise.
