The Government of Malawi has announced plans to sell an aircraft that has been abandoned at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe for 17 years.
Transport Minister Jappie Mhango said authorities have been unable to trace the owner despite long efforts.
He said the aircraft is now disrupting operations at the airport due to the space it occupies.
Mhango noted it is unfortunate that some people treat Malawi as a dumping ground for abandoned property.
He added that the pilots once offloaded cargo and later left on another plane, never returning.
The government says it will proceed with the sale to clear the aircraft and restore efficient airport operations.
