Celebrated gospel singer Miracle Chinga has stirred a hornets’ nest on social media after sharing photos of herself in a bikini, sparking a fierce debate over the “moral conduct” of gospel artists in the country.
The songstress, daughter of the late legendary “Queen of Gospel” Grace Chinga, became the top trending topic this week after posting images of herself relaxing at a swimming pool, showcasing a side of her life rarely seen by her fans.
The photos quickly drew a wave of “judgmental” comments, with some netizens accusing the artist of betraying the gospel values she promotes in her music.
Critics argued that as a gospel figure, she should maintain a “modest” appearance, while others went as far as suggesting she should switch to secular music if she wishes to flaunt her body.
“You need to dress like the gospel you preach. What would your mother say?” read one of the top-liked critical comments.
However, the artist found support from a section of fans who argued that a swimming pool is a place for swimwear, not traditional attire. Supporters slammed the critics for “hypocrisy,” noting that she was in a private leisure setting.
After initially ignoring the noise, Miracle posted a throwback photo showing that her mother, the legendary “Queen of Gospel,” also had her leisure moments.
Significantly, the photo features Grace Chinga alongside her close friends and fellow well-known figures, Martha Mituka and Harriet Msungama, all enjoying themselves at a pool. By sharing this, Miracle aimed to prove that her mother was a modern woman who understood the difference between a pulpit and a pool.
In a pointed caption, Miracle suggested that the pressure on her generation is largely due to the visibility of social media, rather than a change in values.
The response has further divided the public. While some praised her for her “boldness” and for standing up to online bullies, others remain adamant that gospel icons should hold themselves to a higher “standard of holiness” in the public eye.

Miracle concluded her post by thanking both her critics and defenders for their engagement, effectively signaling that she remains “unbothered” by the digital storm.
