Police in Mzuzu have arrested three men suspected of vandalizing their brother’s property in Kanthete over allegations linked to their father’s death.

Mzuzu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Edson Chipeni, confirmed the arrest of Chrispin Kasambala, 22, Dickson Petros Kasambala, 27, and Mathews Kasambala, 19. The three are accused of destroying the house of their brother, Burton Kasambala, in an apparent act of revenge.

According to Chipeni, the suspects’ father died in a road accident in 2024. However, the trio allegedly believed that Burton had bewitched their father, leading to his death.

“On May 1, 2026, the suspects went to Burton’s residence intending to confront him,” Chipeni said. “Upon arrival, they forced entry by breaking down the door but did not find him.”

Frustrated by his absence, the three allegedly turned their anger on the property, vandalizing the house and causing extensive damage. Police estimate the value of the destroyed property at approximately K7 million.

The matter was reported to authorities, leading to the arrest of the suspects on May 4, 2026. Chipeni added that the three have since admitted to the offense.

They are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to malicious damage to property.
