A 41-year-old security guard, Clement Lihuta, has died after allegedly being attacked by German Shepherd dogs while on duty in Old Naisi, Zomba.
Lihuta, an employee of Chalo Security Services, was guarding a residence belonging to John Kauta on Monday night when the incident occurred.
According to Zomba Police Deputy Publicist Andrew Mwale, the homeowner reportedly heard the guard shouting for help during the night, claiming that he was being attacked by dogs. Mwale said the homeowner advised Lihuta to seek refuge in the guardroom, believing that the guard might have been intoxicated.
The following morning, another security guard arriving for duty discovered Lihuta’s body lying on the lawn in a pool of blood. Two aggressive German Shepherd dogs were reportedly found near the body.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department later visited the scene to conduct investigations, while the body was taken to Zomba Central Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Medical results confirmed that Lihuta died from multiple dog bites, severe haemorrhage, and damage to major arteries.
Police say investigations into the incident are continuing.
