Officer-in-Charge for Liwonde Police, Alex Simenti, has advised motorcycle taxi operators to carefully verify customers before transporting them from pickup points.

Simenti made the remarks following the arrest of three suspects accused of killing Inussa Jafali on the night of May 16 in Malonjere Village in Machinga.

According to police, motorcycle taxi operators should avoid carrying suspicious-looking passengers in order to protect themselves from possible attacks.

Meanwhile, vice chairperson for motorcycle taxi operators, Brian Kunje, said operators have agreed on new safety measures that riders will be following to prevent similar incidents.

Police say Jafali was strangled with a rope before the suspects stole his motorcycle and fled with it to Blantyre, where it was later sold in Phalombe.
