Mwachande Actor “Amfumu” Roy Chidzanja Dies

Veteran actor Roy Chidzanja, who was widely known for his role in the popular drama series Mwachande, has died.
According to family members, Chidzanja passed away on Sunday evening in Lilongwe after a short illness.
His death has sent shockwaves through Malawi’s arts and entertainment industry, with fellow creatives and fans paying tribute to his contribution to local television and theatre.
Speaking on the loss, Wellington Kuntaja, who oversees creative affairs at Mibawa Television, described Chidzanja as a naturally gifted actor whose talent helped shape Malawi’s film and drama industry.
Kuntaja said the industry has lost one of its dedicated performers whose work entertained and inspired many people across the country.
Burial arrangements indicate that Chidzanja’s body will be laid to rest on Monday, June 23, at his home village of Chimkango in Chileka, Blantyre.
His passing marks the end of a remarkable journey for an actor whose performances in Mwachande made him a familiar face in many Malawian households.
