Two people have died in a road accident involving a Mitsubishi Colt pickup truck and a Lifo motorcycle along the Mangochi–Makanjira Road on Tuesday morning.
Makanjira Police Public Relations Officer Mike Kamba identified the deceased as Saidi Alli, 46, and Kadawere Pilaji, 36.
According to Kamba, the pickup truck was travelling from Makanjira towards Mangochi when its driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with the motorcycle.
At the time of the crash, Alli was riding the motorcycle while Pilaji was travelling as a pillion passenger.
The impact left both victims with severe head injuries. They were rushed to Namalaka Health Centre, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Police say the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene immediately after the accident and remains at large.
Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the driver as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
