Man arrested for raping 9-year-old girl in Dowa

Police in Mponela, Dowa District, have arrested Amosi Nefitale, from Kasereka Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kayembe, on suspicion of raping a nine-year-old child.
Mponela Police spokesperson Macpatson Msadala confirmed the incident, stating that on July 12, 2026, the suspect called the child to his home, pulled the child inside, and raped her.
He said the suspect was caught in the act, causing him to flee. The child’s mother subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Msadala added that the child was rushed to Chizolowondo Health Centre, where medical results confirmed that she had indeed been raped.
The suspect will appear before court.
