Government Sends Dr. Chomo Murder Evidence Abroad for Forensic Analysis

The Ministry of Justice says it has sent medical evidence related to the murder of Dr. Atughanile Chomo abroad for forensic analysis as preparations for the murder trial continue.
Ministry of Justice spokesperson Frank Namangale said the decision was made to obtain an independent forensic assessment, despite investigations already conducted by the Malawi Police Service.
According to Namangale, once the forensic report is received, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will issue a committal certificate to the High Court, paving the way for the trial of 25-year-old Macmillan Mvevule, who was arrested earlier this month in connection with the case.
He added that the DPP’s office is committed to ensuring homicide cases are prosecuted expeditiously and concluded within a reasonable timeframe.
Dr. Chomo, 28, was a medical doctor in the Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital before his death.
