There has been widespread discussion on social media following reports that Miss Malawi Thandi Chisi will not represent Malawi at the upcoming Miss World competition, which is scheduled to take place in Vietnam next month.

Instead, Ireen Navicha is reportedly expected to represent Malawi at the international pageant.

According to Godfrey Kambewa, who is involved in efforts to ensure that Navicha represents the country, the Miss World competition allows contestants aged between 17 and 27.

Kambewa argues that Navicha, who is 21 years old, may have a greater opportunity to participate in the competition compared to Chisi, who is 27.

The reported change has sparked debate among people in Malawi and abroad, with some questioning the decision and comparing the situation to what they describe as FIFA’s alleged efforts to protect Lionel Messi at the World Cup before he had won the trophy.

The matter continues to generate debate online, with members of the public expressing different views on the decision and the criteria used to determine who should represent Malawi at the international competition.
