Blantyre City Council closes down Kachere market

Blantyre City Council (BCC) has closed down Kachere Market over failure by vendors in paying market fee, faceofmalawi can reveal.

A visit by faceofmalawi reporter at the closed market saw heavy presence of the police manning the market to ensure that vendors don ply their business.

BCC Public Relations Officer Anthony Kasunda confirmed of the development in an interview with FOM’s reporter.

Kasunda said the closure of the market is the only solution to the matter.

But Chairman of the market James Masumbu said the vendors will only start paying market fee to City Assembly once new toilets are constructed at the market.
