Nankhumwa, Uladi elected as DPP VPs

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa has been elected as Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South replacing Dr. George Chaponda who pulled out of the race at the 11th hour.

Nankhumwa got 774 votes against Joseph Mwanamvekha’s 407 and Henry Mussa’s 401 votes.

In the central region, Uladi Mussa emerged the winner as he got 964 votes while his closest challenger, Dean Josiah, got 298 votes.

Mussa attributed the success to a strong foundation he laid in the DPP during former President the late Bingu wa Mutharika’s reign.

Nakhumawa hailed the delegates in his remarks, saying his victory signifies the level of trust the people have in him.

The indaba has also endorsed President Peter Mutharika as the party’s torchbearer in the forthcoming tripartite elections.
