Polls Case to End on December 6

The panel of five judges hearing the historic presidential elections case at the Constitutional court in Lilongwe has set December 6, 2019 as the day to conclude the polls case.

Chairman of the five-member panel judges, Healey Potani said the court case which started on August 8 in Lilongwe, will adjourn on Friday and resume on November 25.

“We are planning on finish the hearing on December 6,'” said Judge Potani

He added; “I am emphasize it is the hearing and not the judgment which means that we are planning ahead, we must plan in such away that when we come on November 25, we will come for two weeks, hopefully the respondents case would be concluded by then.”

United Transformation Movement President Saulos Chilima and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera are seeking nullification of the presidential results arguing that the polls had numerous anomalies.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared president Peter Mutharika winner of the disputed elections seconded by Chakwera and Chilima on the third position.
