FAM writes CAF over hostile reception, nasty incidents in Chad

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has disclosed that it is going to write the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the hostile reception accorded to the Malawi national soccer side as well as nasty incidents that occurred during the Nations Cup first leg qualifier played in N’djamena on Wednesday.

The hosts bagged maximum points in after defeating the Flames 3-2.

However, the home fans started to throw missiles into the pitch after South Africa based Flames blossoming striker Atusaye Nyondo reduced the arrears by scoring second goal.

objects from the home crowd while Spain based youthful midfielder Robin Ngalande was also among the Flames players affected by the rain of missiles.

According to the local media, FAM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Suzgo Nyirenda has since described the ugly scenes as ‘unacceptable’ and has said that the association was in the process of lodging a complaint to the continental governing body of the game over the manner in which the host country handled the Flames.

Coach Kinnah Phiri is also on record as to have condemned the behavior of the home fans adding that the ugly scenes affected the performance of his team during the game.

This is the second time that the Flames have received hostile reception by the Chadians following the 2-2 draw that failed the Flames quest for a place at the just ended 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon where neighbouring Chipolopolo of Zambia defeated Ivory Coast 8-7 on post match penalties to conquer Africa.

During the failed 2012 campaign, the hosts gave the Flames a DESERT LIKE ground for training and they had to switch from one hotel to another because of the poor standards.

The return leg will be played in Blantyre at the giant Kamuzu stadium where the Flames just need a 1-0 win to sail through to the next phase of the qualifiers on June 17.

The team that qualifies for the next stage will either meet the Super Eagles of Nigeria or Rwanda who drew 0-0 during the first leg in Kigali.
