The Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has reiterated its earlier stance that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader won the May polls.
Speaking at a panel discussion hosted by the official broadcaster of the May polls (radio), ZBS, MESN director Steven Duwa indicated that as MESN they stood by their earlier declaration that Mutharika had won the elections.
“We had observers on the ground and it is from those observers that we have made our decision,” said Duwa.
Duwa indicated that MESN had delayed in releasing their Parallel Voter Tabulation results deliberately as they did not wish to throw the nation into confusion. They had however started releasing the results when MEC announced its 30% which they had noticed was in sync with theirs gotten from the same place as Mec’s.
Duwa further indicated that as MESN they had over 2000 observers on the ground for the elections. MESN had earlier deployed 1, 500 observers who later were beefed up by a contingent of 800 others.
