Dausi’ ‘careless’ public statement on albino killings in Malawi angers APAM

The Association of People with Albinism (APAM) has withdrawn its membership from the Presidential Task Force on Persons with Albinism with immediate effect.

APAM President, Overstone Kondowe confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.

According to Kondowe, the decision has been made following yesterday’s “careless” public statement made by government during a press conference in Lilongwe on the matter.

Home security minister Nicholas Dausi told the media that attacks on people with albinism have not yet reached to levels where the targeted community should hold vigil at state house and begin to demand asylum in other countries.

Kondowe said the statement by government clearly demonstrates lack of seriousness in fulfilling duties and responsibility to protect persons with albinism.

Kondowe says APAM is still reminding government to fulfill all the demands effected to them with immediate effect.

Some of the demands by APAM includes;

UNCOVER THE MARKET WHICH FUELS ATTACKS ON PERSONS WITH ALBINISM THROUGH COMMISSION OF INQUIRY, RESEARCH AND HIRING OF FOREIGN NVESTIGATION EXPERTS
IMPROVEMENT ON ACCESS OF JUSTICE THROUGH ESTABLISHMENT OF SPECIAL AD HOC COURTS

ROLLING OUT OF NATIONAL ACTION PLAN ON PERSONS WITH ALBINISM (NAP)

INTENSIFY SECURITY OF PERSONS WITH ALBINISM ACROSS THE COUNTRY

INCREASED SOCIO-ECONOMIC SUPPORT TO PERSONS WITH ALBINISM
