CHAKWERA’S CROSS EXAMININATION BEGINS TODAY

Cross examination of the second petitioner in the ongoing presidential case Lazarus Chakwera begins this morning.

This follows court’s ruling on seven Applications by lawyers for MCP President aimed at giving guidance and assistance in speeding up the case.

MCP lawyer Mordecai Msiska said directions given will facilitate in speeding the case.

Among other things Chakwera’s Attorney objected to their client being cross examined on his character. Lawyers for MEC and Peter Mutharika are cross examining each other’s witnesses.

The court also ruled on a number of issues and Mordecai Msiska is the leading lawyer for MCP.

“There is a limitation on the questions he can be asked, in other words he is going to be asked questions that come out of the sworn statements of other witnesses and he cannot be asked questions concerning his character that is irrelevant to constitutional questions that the chief justice asked this court to determine,” said Msiska.

MCP and UTM wants the court to nullify the May 21presidential results arguing that they were marred with irregularities.
