Five dead, 62 injured after two buses collide

KENYA – The nation has woken up to the sad news of the death of five people following the collision of two Modern Coast buses in Kiongwani, Makueni County along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, Makueni County Police Commander Joseph ole Napeiyan said that 62 other persons sustained injuries after the horrible accident.

Napeiyan also asked Kenyans to remain calm as probe into the accident kicks off.

The accident reportedly occurred at 2.40 a.m. on Thursday.

“One of the buses was heading from Malaba town while the other one was heading towards Nairobi when the accident occurred. The bus coming from Mombasa left its lane and collided with the oncoming bus,” said Napeiyan.

The scene of the accident has been marked as a black spot after recording a series of accidents in recent.

The victims have been rushed to  Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital for treatment.
