‘MEC, APM Appeal on ConCourt Verdict Will not Achieve Anything’ – Kaliati

United Transformation Movement (UTM) Secretary General Patricia Akweni Kaliati has said the appeal by Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and President Peter Mutharika on the Constitutional Court verdict will not change anything.

Kaliati said this when she addressed a political rally at Lumbira primary school ground in Chilomoni township, Blantyre.

Kaliati went on asking Mutharika to accept and respect the Constitutional Court ruling on the presidential election case.

On February 3, the Constitutional Court nullified the May 21, 2019 presidential election in which the electoral body declared Mutharika winner.

UTM’s President Saulos Chilima and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lazarus Chakwera prayed to court to nullify the presidential polls arguing that the whole electoral process was fraudulent.

Kaliati has also commended the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) for ensuring peace and order for the past nine months the country has witnessed a wave of protests pushing for the resignation of MEC Chairperson, Justice Jane Ansah.
