Estranged Malawi Congress Party Regional Chairman for the South, Peter Simbi has rejected calls for his resignation,saying his term of office will expire in 2025.
Two days ago, twelve of his district chairmen held a media briefing in Chirimba where they called for Simbi’s resignation accusing him of lacking leadership skills.
After the briefing, the district chairmen accompanied by some youths stormed MCP regional headquarters while chanting anti-Simbi’s songs.
But reacting to the calls, Simbi accused the district chairmen of being sent by his opponents in the party.
“Ndili pa mpando wu mpaka 2025 woo” (I will remain on this position until 2025),” Simbi said.
Effort to talk to MCP spokesperson Maurice Munthali on the matter proved futile.
