Four people die after drowning in Luwanjazi river in Mzimba

Three women and a one year old baby girl have died after drowning in Luwanjazi river near Chisengezi in the area of Inkosi Chindi in Mzimba where they had gone to catch fish on Thursday.

Mzimba police deputy spokesperson, John Nyirongo has confirmed the development saying the women were using poisonous herbs, known as Mtetezga to catch the fish.

According to Nyirongo, when the women noticed dead fish floating on water, one of them went to collect the fish but ended up drowning.

The rest also ventured into the water to try to rescue their friend, but they also drowned in the process.

One of the deceased had a one year old baby girl strapped on her back.
