Namiwa handed 10 years jail sentence for burglary

Zomba Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda has convicted and sentenced Gift Namiwa, 20, to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for the offence of burglary and theft which occurred in September.

The court, through the State Prosecutor Sub-Inspector, Chimpazi Katukwana, heard that during the night of September 19, 2022, the convict, together with his alleged accomplice Frank Makayika, broke into the house of Alexander Thawe.

The two stole a plasma TV screen, an HP laptop, an amplifier and one cell phone, all valued at K1,600,000.

Makaika’s case is still being heard as he pleaded not guilty to the same charges levelled against his colleague.

Namiwa has since been jailed for 10 years.
