Police officer Jones Kampezeni dies in road accident

One police officer is reported dead while two others and a messenger have sustained various degrees of injuries following road accident that happened last night at Mtambo area along Goliati road.

The deceased has been identified as Sergeant Jones Kampezeni.

The fact of the matter is that Kampezeni was driving a vehicle registration number MP 2622 Trooper and was assigned to ferry retired S/Insp Chiomba heading Malowa Turn off.

“FATAL ROAD ACCIDENT Involving service motor vehicle registration number MP 2622 Trooper driven by B5797 Dvr/Sgt Jones Kampezeni, C/O B.Division (deceased) full particulars not yet known Who was driving from the direction of Goliati where he was assigned to ferry retired S/Insp Chiomba heading Malowa Turn off along Goliati road and had three passengers on board namely; No. B6711 Sgt Petro Mangerengere, B6675. Sgt Morgan Mphukiwa and messenger Chikondi Kaunda of PTS Limbe.

“On arrival at Mtambo he lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed and swerved to the extreme offside verge where he overturned. Following the impact the driver sustained fractures on both arms and severe head injury, while three other passengers escaped with different degrees of injuries,” reads part of the police report.

Added the police report: “They were all taken to Queen Elizabeth Central hospital where the driver was pronounced dead before treatment was duly rendered to him.

“The motor vehicle got extensively damaged. Occurred on 02/10/2023 at about 2300hrs at Mtambo area along Goliati road. LB/TAR/ 332/2023 refers.”
