President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has today officially launched the Katunga-Maseya Cooperative mega farm in Chikwawa.
Upon arrival at the mega farm, National Coordinator for the Agricultural Commercialisation (AGCOM), Ted Nakhumwa, briefed the Malawi leader on the initiative, the current state and its prospects.
The president of the cooperative, Collins Ntalika, also briefed Chakwera on how they got a K5.3 billion grant from AGCOM for the initiative.
In his remarks, President Chakwera urged Malawians to change their attitude towards the development of Malawi.
“We must no longer allow our attitude to ourselves and the attitude of others towards us to be defined by what we don’t have but what we do have,” Chakwera Said.
The Malawi leader also emphasized the importance of the mega farms saying this is the milestone in securing food security in Malawi.
Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale applauded the Government of Malawi for supporting his ministry in implementing the Mega Farms, saying this is in line with the Malawi Vision 2063.
Over 194 farmers are expected to manage the 1069-hectare land under the cooperative arrangement.
