The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has contributed K5 million to Misa Malawi to support this year’s World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) commemorations.
Speaking on the development, MRA’s Acting Head of Corporate Affairs, Wilma Chalulu, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the tax authority and the media. She emphasized that journalists play a critical role in promoting voluntary tax compliance.
‘Our relationship with Misa Malawi remains strong. Journalists are key partners in our work through them, we can ensure that accurate information reaches the public, encouraging people to comply with tax obligations. When this happens, the country benefits from increased revenues for national development,” Chalulu said.
Misa Malawi’s National Governing Council member, Chikondi Kasambara, welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and impactful. He sid this support will significantly contribute to the success of this important event.
The WPFD commemorations are scheduled to take place in Mzuzu on Saturday, where journalists from across the country will converge.
In addition to the WPFD support, MRA also sponsors the Business Journalist of the Year Award, an initiative aimed at recognizing excellence in business reporting.
