
Malawi Chewa Heritage prays for peaceful elections

As the nation draws closer to the September 16 General Elections, various civil society organizations,faith groups and others quarters of society have been organizing prayers seeking God’s intervention in the electoral process.
One of those is the cultural grouping called’ Malawi Chewa Heritage – Chifukwato cha Achewa on June 6 ,2025 ,joined band wagon by organizing interdenominational prayers at Botanic Garden in the capital, Lilongwe ,praying for the nation to have free,fair and credible elections.
Chairperson for the grouping Raphael Nowa said they decided to organize the prayers, asking God to bring peace and tranquility during the process of managing the elections and even the aftermath of the polls.
” We want these elections to be conducted in a free and fair manner,” he said.
Nowa who is also a Group Village Headman (GVH) Sosola from Traditional Authority (TA) Khombedza in Salima district also implored youths in the country to desist from violence and being used by selfish politicians for their personal gains,adding that Malawi is for everyone.
” Every political party should sell it’s manifestos in a peaceful manner. We need to have issue based campaigns. This is the only country we have and we must safeguard it,” explained Nowa.
The traditional leader hinted that Malawi Chewa Heritage – Chifukwato cha Achewa is very committed to bring love,peace and promote unity among Chewa ethnic,adding that plans are under way for the grouping to hold cultural festival yearly with an aim of promoting Chewa core values and culture in the country unlike other years they were going to Nkaika in Zambia.
” We will conduct a press briefing very soon to give more highlights on the matter but our plans are to hold these cultural festivals in the first two weeks of month of August,” disclosed Nowa.
In his remarks,the group leader of the interdenomination prayers Ronald Tsabawo said prayers bring peace and miracles in the country and he pledged to hold another similar event on July 4 this year.
