Man Commits Suicide by Drinking Acid in Kasungu

A 26-year-old man, Julius Phiri, has died after reportedly drinking acid in Brighton Village under Senior Chief Mwase in Kasungu District.

According to his father, Lefani Chidothi, the incident occurred near the Kamwala River, where the young man was found unconscious and rushed to Kasungu General Hospital. Medical personnel later confirmed that he died from the effects of the substance.

Family members say they are still unsure what may have led him to take his own life. The sudden death has left relatives and community members in shock.

Group Village Head Brighton described the incident as tragic and urged young people in the area to seek help and avoid resorting to suicide during difficult emotional moments.

The deceased, who hailed from the Mwase area, is survived by his wife and a young child.
