Hospital Worker Arrested Over Alleged Drug Smuggling in Mwanza

Police in Mwanza District have arrested a hospital employee, Austin Kandipha, on suspicion of being involved in the theft and smuggling of medical supplies, as authorities intensify efforts to curb the malpractice.

According to Mwanza Police spokesperson, Hope Kasakula, Kandipha, who works at the district hospital, is believed to have been part of a scheme to illegally distribute government medical drugs.

Kasakula revealed that the suspect is alleged to have been working in collaboration with Victor Sabao, who was arrested earlier this month after he was found in possession of medical drugs without a valid permit.

“Through our investigations, we established that the drugs found in Sabao’s possession were supplied by Kandipha,” said Kasakula.

The suspect is expected to appear before court soon.
