Sophie Mponda has stirred heated debate across Malawi after wearing a Malawi Defence Force (MDF) uniform during Labour Day celebrations.

According to reports circulating online, the actress and video vixen allegedly borrowed the military outfit from a friend who works in the country’s security services so she could create Labour Day-themed content for Facebook.

Sophie later shared videos and photos while dressed in the MDF attire, attracting praise from some followers who viewed the look as stylish, creative and entertaining.

However, the mood quickly changed after rumours emerged on social media claiming that the owner of the uniform had allegedly been dismissed from work for violating military regulations by giving out official attire to a civilian.

The development has since sparked a wider national conversation about creatives using security-related clothing for fashion, branding and online content.

While some people argue that artists and influencers should be free to express themselves creatively, others believe military uniforms should be respected and protected from unauthorised public use.

As the debate intensifies, social media users have also resurfaced old photos of celebrities and public figures including Phyzix, Annie Matumbi and Hyphen, who were previously seen wearing outfits similar to military gear.
