Information reaching this publication indicates that four police recruits in Blantyre have been arrested for allegedly using fake Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) certificates to secure admission into police training.
The four recruits have been identified as Ganizani James, Enosi Banda, Robert Yohane and Lily Chirwa.
Blantyre Police spokesperson Mary Chiponda confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects were apprehended by Fiscal Police officers and are facing fraud-related charges.
“They were picked by Fiscal Police. They are being charged with fraud,” said Chiponda.
According to police, the suspects were among recruits who were expected to graduate during a police pass-out parade scheduled for tomorrow at Kanjedza in Blantyre.
The arrests have since sparked concerns over the verification process of academic qualifications during police recruitment exercises.
Police say investigations into the matter are continuing.
