Police in Blantyre have arrested a 27-year-old man, Gift Binde, for allegedly causing a public disturbance that led to a road accident near Mount Soche Hotel in the city.

According to Blantyre Police deputy spokesperson Doris Mwitha, the incident occurred when Binde spotted a man identified as Lusungu Chima, whom he accused of defrauding him in a land sale deal in Chileka.

Police say Binde began chasing Chima’s vehicle while shouting that he was a thief. The commotion attracted the attention of nearby taxi drivers and motorcycle operators, who reportedly joined the pursuit.

The chase resulted in confusion on the road and caused several vehicles to collide.

Mwitha said police officers rushed to the scene and fired warning shots into the air to restore order and disperse the crowd.

Following the incident, police arrested Binde and his companion. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Police have since urged members of the public to report suspected criminal activities through proper channels and avoid taking the law into their own hands, as such actions can endanger lives and property.
