GOVERNMENT TO PERFECT AIP

Government says it is fully committed to addressing all inefficiencies registered during the implementation of the Affordable Input Programme in the 2020-2021 farming season.

Director of Communications at State House Sean Kampondeni was speaking during the State House Brief in Blantyre.

Kampondeni mentioned some of the inefficiencies to be addressed such as getting rid of duplications in the register saying these posed a challenge to the implementation of the programme in the last season.

He said President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is fully committed to ensuring that the programme is a success in the next farming season.  He reiterated Government’s stand that   2020/21 beneficiaries on the register will be removed in the next growing season.

Meanwhile, Kampondeni says Dr Chakwera will be meeting with the treasury to map the way forward on the funding of the programme this year.

He said the President is fully committed to delivering on his promises as far as food security in the country is concerned.

During the briefing, Kampondeni announced that President Chakwera will ensure that the price of fertilizer is reduced to enable those not benefitting from the AIP to buy thereby increasing food production in the country.
