MERA rejects fuel hike rumours

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has trashed rumours hovering on social media that fuel has been hiked again in the country.

The social media has been awash with a statement from Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) recommending a fuel hike in the country.

The statement claimed that petrol jump by 13.56% from from K1999 to K2270 while Diesel will rise by 18.96% from Mk1920 to K2184.

Paraffin from K1261 tonK1627 representing a 29.02%.

But MERA spokesperson Fitina Khonje has trashed the statement.

She said MERA Board has not met and fuel prices have not been reviewed.
