Woman demanding MK100 million compensation from police after being hit by teargas canister

A Kasungu based woman, Esnart Nyirongo is demanding a 100 million kwacha compensation from government after police allegedly injured her with a teargas canister during recent protests in Kasungu.
Lawyer representing the woman, Chipiliro Mwale of Mbulo law Associates has told the press that her client feels police were negligent to use teargas in a residential location.
Mwale said the 100 million kwacha is to compensate her permanent facial disfigument and other damages.
The Malawi Police Service is yet to comment on the matter.
