Fake Nurse handed 24 months jail sentence

The Second Grade Magistrate’s Court sitting at Bolero in Rumphi on Friday convicted and sentenced a 23 year-old, Febie Mfune to 24 months in jail for impersonating a Nurse at area’s health centre.

The court through prosecutor Haniphe Mwanza heard that Mfune committed the crime on 24 and 27 October 2022 when she reported at Bolero health centre as a new trained nurse sent to work by Rumphi district health office.

Mwanza said when she was asked to produce her professional documents to work at the facility, she failed and was advised by the hospital In-charge, Wisdom Mnyimbiri to go back and bring relevant documents which she failed.

Mfune from Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in the district pleaded guilty of the charges levelled against her and asked for leniency.

In her ruling Second Grade Magistrate Her Worship Chikumbutso Kachipande slapped her with two year jail term imprisonment with hard labour as her actions put lives of many people at risk.
