A group of unemployed IPTE 13 and 14 teachers delivered a petition to Nkhotakota District Council this morning.
They questioned the council’s recent recruitment of only 9 teachers. Spokesperson Collings Chunga expressed their concern, citing a government document that recommended the council to hire 70 teachers.
In their petition, the jobless teachers requested an explanation within 5 days, warning of potential vigils at the council premises if their demands are not met.
Wongani Mkandawire, a spokesperson for Nkhotakota District Council, confirmed that the letter has reached the appropriate council officials.
