The organizing committee of the Mulhako wa Alhomwe cultural festival has announced that this year’s event will take place on October 19, 2025, at the group’s headquarters in Chonde, Mulanje District.

Chairperson of the organizing board, Muchanakhwaye Mpuluka, confirmed the date and said this year’s festival will be held under the theme: “The Spirit of Perseverance; Overcoming Challenges Together.”

Mpuluka emphasized that the 2025 edition aims to bring together both elders and the youth to celebrate and share knowledge about Lhomwe culture.

“We want this year’s event to strengthen unity and intergenerational collaboration, especially in promoting and preserving Lhomwe heritage,” said Mpuluka.

He added that the theme was carefully chosen to reflect the current socio-economic hardships facing the country, and to encourage Malawians to remain united and resilient in the face of adversity.

The Mulhako wa Alhomwe festival is an annual cultural event that celebrates the traditions, language, food, and music of the Lhomwe people. It has grown to become one of Malawi’s largest cultural gatherings, attracting people from across the country and beyond.

Organizers say preparations are already underway, with traditional dances, cultural exhibitions, and various activities lined up to mark the celebration.
