A 45-year-old man, Orman Kamanga, has been arrested in Mzuzu after he was caught with an illegal Browning Hi-Power pistol and four rounds of live ammunition.

The arrest followed a tip-off from neighbors who reported that Kamanga who recently returned from South Africa was threatening to shoot his own relative during a heated land dispute.

Mzuzu Police spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi confirmed that when officers arrived, Kamanga initially tried to play it off, claiming the gun was just a “toy.” However, a search of his house proved otherwise, turning up the military-grade pistol and the bullets.

Police are now checking if the gun has been used in other robberies. Kamanga, who comes from Chapongolera Village, T/A Kabunduli in Nkhata Bay, is expected in court soon.
