Two Die, Five Hospitalised After Suspected Food Poisoning in Neno

Two members of the same family from Chakulemaru Village in Dambe Chiefdom in Neno District have died after eating suspected contaminated food.

Neno District Health spokesperson, Caroline Banda, said last evening that the family consisted of six members and one guest. Five people are currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Banda said the family ate nsima and later developed diarrhoea. They were first taken to Matandani Mission Hospital before being referred to Neno District Hospital for further treatment.

“Two have died and the others are hospitalised. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident,” Banda said.

Health authorities say investigations are underway to establish whether the food was contaminated.
