Zimbabwean prophet, Uebert Angel has said that countries whose leaders do not respect prophets fail to progress in all aspects of development.
Angel made the remarks on Friday night in Lilongwe during a birthday celebration for Shepherd Bushiri, who marked his birthday on February 20.
During his address, Angel claimed that he once met former Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera in the United States of America, where they allegedly discussed the importance of respecting Prophet Bushiri.
Angel also referred to the arrest of Bushiri and his wife, saying that during the leadership of the Malawi Congress Party MCP, the prophet frequently appeared before courts. He suggested that the discussions he had with Chakwera did not yield positive results, claiming that Bushiri continued to face legal battles, which he implied contributed to the party’s political downfall.
He went on to thank former President Peter Mutharika for what he described as showing respect to Prophet Bushiri.
Angel further stated that former Vice President Michael Usi should forget about contesting in the 2030 elections, claiming he would not win.
The remarks have since sparked debate among political and religious circles, with some praising Angel’s boldness while others criticizing the mixing of religion and politics.
