The President of Malawi, Professor Arthur  Peter Mutharika on Sunday departed for South Africa on a private visit, leaving through the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

The President was seen off by high-ranking government officials, including the Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Justin Saidi, alongside jubilant supporters of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Speaking on Sunday morning, Saidi confirmed the departure but noted that the public would be updated later regarding the duration of the President’s stay in South Africa.

This marks the second time the APM has traveled abroad on private business since his inauguration. President Mutharika, who took office after winning the September 16, 2025, general election, previously traveled to South Africa on December 1, 2025, before returning to Malawi on December 15.
