The Chisenjere Second Grade Magistrate’s Court in Chileka has sentenced Wanangwa Zava to 10 years’ imprisonment for burglary and theft of motor vehicle parts.
State prosecutor Sub-Inspector Gertrude Mteke told the court that Zava had been terrorising the areas of Chatha, Ngumbe, and 10 Miles in Chileka, breaking into premises and stealing vehicle parts.
Mteke said Zava had been on the run after committing the offences. She added that he also stole motor vehicle parts from another house near the first victim’s residence.
Zava pleaded guilty to the charges.
In her ruling, Second Grade Magistrate Naomi Chingana concurred with the state and sentenced Zava to 48 months for burglary and 24 months for theft, with the sentences running concurrently.
He also received 36 months for each of two additional theft counts involving motor vehicle parts. These sentences will run consecutively to the burglary sentence.
Zava, who hails from Chatha Village under Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre, will serve his sentence at Blantyre Prison.
