A Malawian female socialite, identified as Dash Dash, is currently trending on social media after making remarks that have sparked widespread criticism and debate.
In a post that has since gone viral, Dash Dash shared her views on relationships and financial stability, stating:
“Even the Bible says: ‘A man who can’t provide shouldn’t claim a woman.’ If God himself doesn’t like broke men, why should I?
My advice to girls: don’t date broke men unless you’re rich yourself. In a relationship, both of you can’t be struggling one person must have money.
If your husband or boyfriend is a top fan of Esinati, break up with him. Find another man there are plenty of wealthy men around town.
And if you live in Lilongwe, men there are rich. If he is broke, leave him. you can always come back when he becomes rich.”
The statement quickly triggered backlash, with many social media users criticizing what they described as the promotion of materialism in relationships.
Some critics argued that such views reduce relationships to financial transactions rather than emphasizing mutual support, love, and partnership. One user commented:
“This is why I keep saying such women deserve less. You see how some women hype themselves up like ‘I’m the prize, I only date rich men,’ while at the same time objectifying themselves… then get surprised when they’re treated poorly. You can’t market yourself like a product and then get mad when someone tries to shop.”
However, others defended Dash Dash, suggesting that her remarks reflect real economic pressures and expectations in modern relationships, particularly in urban areas.
The conversation continues to divide opinion, highlighting ongoing debates in Malawi around love, financial stability, and gender roles in relationships.
As of now, Dash Dash has not publicly responded to the criticism.
