Government Distances President Mutharika From Viral Arsenal Congratulatory Message

The Malawi Government has dismissed as false a viral social media poster claiming that President Arthur Peter Mutharika congratulated Arsenal F.C. for winning the 2025/2026 English Premier League title.
In a press statement, Government spokesperson Shadric Namalomba described the message as fake, malicious and disrespectful to the Presidency.
Namalomba said the statement circulating online was created by individuals seeking to trivialize and damage the image of the President.
Government has since demanded that those responsible remove President Mutharika’s name from the list of people allegedly congratulating Arsenal.
The statement further warned that using another person’s name without consent especially that of the Head of State is against the law and may lead to prosecution, fines or imprisonment once offenders are identified.
Arsenal F.C. recently won the English Premier League title after nearly 22 years.
