CSO Leaders Urge Government to Begin Good Governance

Civil Society Organizations advises the current administration on how to administer the country properly.

At a press conference in Lilongwe, CSO leaders urged the government to engage with donors in order to resume international aid among other things.

The CSO leaders led by Human Rights Consultative Comittee member Rogers Newa told journalists that the current administration has to tread carefully in managing bilateral and multi-lateral relations.

“We call upon the president to engage in a constructive discussion with these agencies in order to unlock funding that was withheld for the country,” said leaders.

The CSO leaders advised the new administration to ensure that appointments into government are made on merit as opposed to political appeasement.

The leaders commended the State President Mrs. Joyce Banda for the reconciliation and nation building moves but pointed out that matters of accountability and justice do not equal vengeance.

The CSO leaders have also reminded the current administration that some of the issues raised in the July 20 petition still stand.

“Of particular concern are issues to do with acute shortages of forex and fuel, drug shortage, and high cost of living among others have to be looked into,” said the CSO leaders
